Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear polymer, which has been widely used in paper-making, mineral processing, oil recovery, metallurgy, building materials, sewage treatment and other industries. As a lubricant, suspension agent, clay stabilizer, oil displacement agent, water loss reducer and thickener, polyacrylamide is widely used in drilling, acidizing, fracturing, water plugging, cementing, secondary oil recovery and tertiary oil recovery, is an extremely important oilfield chemical.
1. Flocculation: PAM can neutralize suspended substances by electricity, bridge adsorption and flocculation.
2, Adhesion: PAM can play a role of adhesion through mechanical, physical, chemical effects.
3, Resistance reduction: PAM can effectively reduce the frictional resistance of the fluid, adding a small amount of PAM in water can reduce the resistance by 50-80%.
4, Thickening: PAM has thickening effect under neutral and acid conditions, when the PH value is above 10, PAM is easy to hydrolyze. Thickening will be more pronounced when in a semi-mesh structure.

In oil exploitation, it is mainly used in drilling mud materials and improving oil recovery rate.

PAM is widely used as resident agent and filter aid leveling agent in paper-making field.
4 Textile Printing and Dyeing Industry
In the textile industry, PAM is a sizing agent and finishing agent for fabric post-treatment, which can produce a soft, anti-wrinkle and mold-resistant protective layer.
